Elizabeths early life

• Elizabeth was born 1533
• Elizabeth’s birth was a huge disappointment to king Henry as wanted a male heir and later beheaded Anne Boleyn
• the reformation had created a lot of religious conflict
• Elizabeth inherited the throne in 1559
• she was accused by her sister Mary I of treason and imprisoned her in the Tower of London
• Mary I is catholic
• Elizabeth I is Protestant
• Elizabeth had many catholic plots against her
• she reigned from 1558 to 1603
• Henry married Jane Seymour and prince edward was born (1537)
• Elizabeth’s childhood was spent in company of her servants and governess
• Catherine parr became Elizabeth’s step-mother in 1543
• Catherine parr encouraged Henry to welcome Elizabeth back into his court
• Elizabeth was fluent in french, Italian and Latin and could read Ancient Greek and enjoyed listening too music. she was taught how to speak in public which was unusual for women at this time
• Edward becomes king in 1547
