• reasons for deposition: the volume of water falls, the amount or eroded material increases, the water is shallower, the river reaches its mouth
• waterfalls are found in the upper coarse of a river
• eg of a waterfall: high force on river tees.
• in the upper course the river lacks the power to erode laterally so winds around the hillsides making interlocking spurs
• the current is faster on the outside of a river bend because the river channel is deeper, therefore more erosion takes place
• levees are natural embankments
• river discharge is the volume of water flowing in a river
• hydrographs show how the discharge at a certain point in a river changes over time in relation to rainfall
