Pressure

Cards (7)

  • What is the definition of pressure?
It is defined as the force per unit of area
  • Pressure is applied between to solid object in contact with each other
  • What is pressure measured in?
    Pascals (Pa)
  • the equation Force / Area = Pressure tells us the key point of pressure where it showcases how depending on the area at which force is exerted there will be different amounts of pressure enacted.
  • What is a good example of this involving shoes?
The comparison of trainers to high heels shows us how there will be more pressure exerted on the ground as the weight is distributed to less area meaning the area at which it is distributed holds more force.
This is why there is an effect of sinking with high heels when on specified surfaces
The shoes showcase how it is evenly distributed and that there is overall less pressure exerted on the ground
    A)
  • Simple terms Area smaller = Pressure greater
  • A child lies down on a snowy incline and does not move down the incline. When he gets on his sled he is able to move down the incline. Explain why?
When the boy lies down he has a lower surface area than the sled and therefore more force is applied on the snow making the boy sink and stay in place. The sleds higher surface area allows less pressure to be exerted on the snow so he now doesn't sink into the snow
