  • 1 March 1917: Tsar Nicholas II agreed to hand authority to a ⚠️temporary⚠️ committee. He abdicated on 2 March 1917.
  • Some historians argue that they were weak from the start, but their actions/ the appeal of the Bolsheviks made things worse
  • Not elected - doomed?
    However, they saw quite a lot of support at first.
  • Return of Lenin to Russia in April 1917
  • Kornilov affair:
    • Kerensky wanted to restore law and order following the July Days
    • General Kornilov was appointed as the Supreme Commander of the Russian forces
    • Kornilov saw this as an opportunity to crush the radical socialists and sent troops to seize control of the gov
    • Kerensky panicked and gave weapons to the Bolshevik Red Guard
