    1. Impact - How significant is the actual story
  • 2. Proximity - How close/far is the story taking place? The closer you are the more relevant it is and will captivate the reader better.
  • 3. Recency - The more recent the more intriguing and on trend it is.
  • 4. Novelty/Oddity - Is it a reappearing story or is it completely new. the newer, the better. However if it was trending and reappears there is value there.
  • 5. Prominence/star power : If someone famous is involved then this increases it's value.
  • 6. Conflict - This can be seen as negative but conflict sells papers. It creates drama and tension which makes people want to read about it.
  • 7. Human interest - Stories that involve humans tend to have higher values than stories involving animals.
  • 8. Emotional appeal - Stories that evoke emotion such as sadness, anger etc have higher news values than stories with no emotional impact.
