  • Some whites were horrified at the abandonment of apartheid - Botha didn’t care to win them back so the NP lost their core Afrikaner support (37% of Afrikaners in 1987 didn’t support them)
  • This led to 1982 when Dr Treurnicht led 18 National MPs out of the party in process to form the conservative
  • White workers were upset that they didn’t have the job security and small farmers lost their lack labourers to cities
  • AWB - nazi style extremist far-right group (crudely racist)
  • Little Significance - NP still has majority not in danger of losing power; many know whites still retained power and only maybe concerned
