Light Phase

Subdecks (1)

Cards (11)

  • The light phase takes place in the grana of chloroplasts
  • Radiant energy from the sun is absorbed by chlorophyll molecules in the thylakoids
  • Energy transformation takes place and radiant energy is transformed into chemical energy
  • Chemical energy is used for two processes
    Photolysis:
Water molecules are split into Hydrogen atoms (transferred to dark phase) and oxygen atoms (released into atmosphere as a gas)
  • The energy carrier ATP is formed and it is used again in the dark phase
