  • Explain long shore drift.
  • Due to long shore drift material is constantly moved along the coast line.
  • When coastline changes direction the longshore drift continues causing material to be deposited in a long thin strip not attached to the coast (spit).
  • If this spit moves in the direction of an island and connects the island to the mainland, a tombolo is formed.
  • Tombolo example: Chesil beach connecting to Isle of portland.
