• Lobbyists can affect voting in Congress, and donate large amounts of money to their causes
• Pharmaceutical companies have donated over $2.5 billion to Congress in the last decade in order to gain friendly legislation
• 90% of Reps and 97% of Senators have received pharmaceutical campaign contributions
• Number of registered lobbyists in Washington had fallen to a little over 10,000 in 2018t but their spending increased to over $3 billion annually
