• Virulent phage - causes lysis or death of the host bacterium.

• temperate or avirulent - phage DNA not reproduce by host cell but is transmitted from one generation to another as prophage.
• Cyanophage - virus of blue green algae.
• Mycophage - virus fungi.
• Phytophage - virus of green plants.
• Zymophage - virus of yeast.
• Viral zoonoses - virus of animals.
