MAC addresses identify a device connected to a network. They are groups of 48 bits written in groups of 6 Hex digits
They can be Universally Administered MACs, set at the manufacturing stage, or they can be altered by the user as Locally Administered MACs which can be reset if devices need a certain format on a network
