  • Repetition - when sounds or sequences are often repeated
  • Call and response - when two distinct phrases work like a conversation in music - one musician offers a phrase, and a second musician responds instrumentally.
  • Ostinato - short melodic phrase repeated throughout a composition, sometimes slightly varied or transposed to a different pitch
  • Bridge - a bridge is a contrasting section that prepares for the return of the original section. e.g. A verse before chorus.
  • Fill - a short musical passage, riff, or rhythmic sound that serves to sustain the listeners attention during a break
  • Break - an instrumental or percussion section of a song
  • Form & Structure - the organization & structure of a melodic composition - gives a composition its shape.
