Pressure groups vs parties

• Political parties generally less trusted than pressure groups
• Pressure groups have a more visible presence and influence on people through protests, campaigns and marches
• Pressure groups usually only focus on a specfic area of legislation whereas political parties have to focus on all areas but can sometimes prioritise and highlight one - eg Brexit during campaigning before the 2019 election
• Pressure groups are not always accountable as acts of the individual can be separated from the intentions of the pressure group
• Pressure groups (mostly outsiders) promote civil disobedience
• Pressure groups and political parties influence change in the government
• Pressure groups and parties can both be active in the community
• Pressure groups and parties use elections as a tactical weapon
• Pressure groups and parties may both be part of a larger social movement - Green Party, Greenpeace, and Friends of the Earth are all part of the green movement
