Muslim girls wearing a headscarf were labelled as quiet, and unwilling to offer answers. They were also expected to do well in exams, so were given less help due to anticipated pressure at home- even if this weren’t the case.
Girls felt less like part of the class, had less friends and were less likely to ask for help. They were more likely to underachieve in exams, but not fail completely.
