Consequences

• Cold war development

  Proving the 2 superpowers could fight in a limited/proxy war which was later repeated in other wars

  It was destroyed, Kim Il-Sung requested that the Soviets could provide them with economic and industrial assistance
• South Korea

  -USA had to send in aid as it was devastated

  -Specifically Seoul after being recaptured by the two sides constantly

  -They had gained some territory around 38th parallel due to newly drawn divide
• 38th parallel

  Newly drawn line created a demilitarized zone(DMZ), which was neutral.

  It was 2.5 miles wide
• The North and South were left divided, unable to visit or communicate
• Created numerous orphans and divided families between the countries
• Created dramatic civilian casualties (dead, missing or wounded)
• USA

  -Soldiers remained at the new DMZ zone and in other stations in the South

  -Proved the 'Domino Theory' correct which increased fear and impacted their foreign policy

  -They refused any dealings/trade with China

  -First war that wasn't won

  -High casualties and money spent
• The Western countries became fearful that China would become a 3rd Superpower country after seeing capabilities during war
