  when humans artificially select the plants or animals to breed based on their desirable traits
• the problem with selective breeding is a reduction in the gene pool
• inbreeding can cause health problems and if a new disease appears it will most likely affect them all
• selective breeding -> reduction of the number of different alleles -> less chance of any resistant alleles being present in the population
