  • the love quiz - Hazen and Shaver(1987)
they were interested in Bowlby's idea that an infants first attachment formed an internal working model, wanted to see if there was a correlation between the infants attachment type and their future approach to romantic relationships
the love quiz is a love experience questionnaire which assesses the individuals beliefs about romantic love
  • the love quiz results - secure types
they described their love as happy, friendly and trusting which emphasised on being able to accept their partner regardless of any faults and their 'romantic love' never fading, they are also comfortable depending on others and happy to be close to others
  • the love quiz results - insecure resistant types
they experience love as involving obsession, a desire for reciprocation, emotional highs and lows, they worry that their partners don't love them or might abandon them
  • the love quiz - insecure avoidant types
they typically fear intimacy and believe that they do not need love to be happy, they are uncomfortable being close and/or depending on others
  • love quiz evaluation limitation
they used self report measures meaning there are certain people who would want to take part in a questionnaire so only attracting a certain personality and they could easily lie and show social desirability

the love quiz questionnaire doesn't show a direct cause just a common theme that occurs meaning we don't know if early attachment has a link to later relationships in adulthood
  • love quiz evaluation strengths
research support from Simpson (2007) - assesses infant attachment after one year and found those securely attached have more social confidence and are more emotionally attached to their partner in early adulthood, supporting the view that attachment type predicts relationships in adult life
