  • Ball (1981):

    • Conducted research at Beachside Comprehensive for three years as a participant observer.
    • At Beachside comprehensive students were placed into three bands based on the information provided by their primary schools.

    First band - most able students, described as 'bright and enthusiastic'.
    Second band - those in the middle more of a mediator.
    Third band - least able students, branded as 'emotionally unstable' and a 'waste of time'.

    When talking about Ball it's important to mentioned labelling.
  • Cooper and Stweart (2013):

    They believed that a lack of money can have a huge impact on a child's educational achievement. It can result in :

    • cold, overcrowded housing
    • inadequate levels of food and nutrition,
    • lack of books
    • limited internet access
    • less opportunities for school trips.
