  1. Violent attacks (pushed down stairs and had chemicals and wads of burning paper thrown at them)

  2. Faubus closed all of the Little Rocks high schools during 1958-59 rather than integrate

  3. Central High school was finally integrated in 1960

  4. Other Little Rock schools integrated by 1972
• Faubus got reelected four times
• Little Rock

  • Demonstrated the power of television: On-the-spot TV reporting was pioneered there
  • Images of black children being spat upon by aggressive white adults gained sympathy nationwide
• Little Rock confirmed that the Supreme Court ruling was insufficient and that other forms of activism were required
