Survey, Question, Read, Reflect, Record, Recite and Review
Survey
Skim through the chapter, read the introduction and conclusion, look for definitions and parts of the text highlighted in bold, pay attention to drawings and graphs, look at the title of the book, the author of the book and the date of publication, consider the blurb, index and glossary
Questioning
Ask yourself questions about the topic to identify what you want to find out
Read
Make meaning of the text, break the text down into more digestible sections, read the text out loud
Reflect
Think back to the questions you asked at the beginning and respond to them, apply what you have just read
Record
Make notes - jot down, scribble, put pen to paper on all the salient things you have read from the text
Recall
Recite the information or the key facts from memory without looking at your notes or the text
Review
Go over the text again and skim through it, explain the material to someone else, go over your notes to fill in any missing information or to edit them
