  • HIV: maternal effects: fatigue, nausea, weight loss
  • HIV: fetal effects: transmission can occur during childbirth and through breastmilk
  • HIV: can be transmitted during pregnancy, during vaginal childbirth, through breastfeeding
  • HIV: therapeutic management: goals of HIV drug therapy:
    • decrease HIV viral load below the level of detection
    • restore the body ability to fight off pathogens
    • improve clients quality of life
    • reduce HIV morbidity and mortality
  • HIV: provide education, promote compliance, prevent infectrion
