Abraham/Abram

• • Original name Abram
• • Born in the city of Ur in Babylonia 
• • Son of Terach
• Abram believed that the entire universe was the work of a single creator
• God called Abraham and made him an offer

  If Abraham left his home and family, God would make him a great nation and bless him
• “I will make you into a great nation and I will bless you” (Gen 12: 2).
• B’rit (covenant) rights and responsibilities on both sides of an agreement

  • “This is my covenant, which ye shall keep...Every man child among you shall be circumcised.” 

  (Gen 17:10)
• Ten tests of faith were given to Abram to prove his worthiness for the covenant
• • Abraham’s wife Hagar, gave Abraham a son and they called him Ishmael
  • Believed that Ishmael is the ancestor of the Arabs
• • God changed Abram’s name to Abraham, meaning father of many
• God changed Sarai’s name to Sarah, meaning Princess
• Sarai/Sarah was Abraham's wife
• • Sarah bore a son, Isaac
  • Isaac is the ancestor of the jewish people
