  • Compound eyes 
     located on each side of the head of most adult insects, which consist of many hexagonal elements known as facets or ommatidia
  • Simple eyes or ocelli (singular: ocellus)
    are three simple lenses located between the compound eyes on top of the head, typically arranged in an isosceles triangle; for light detection and are not designed for high resolution vision
  • Lateral or posterior ocelli
    found between the eyes and above the bases of the antennae
  • Anterior or median ocellus
     antero – ventral to the lateral ocelli and between the antennal bases
