After the end of World War II, the USA and
Russia
emerged as the rival
superpowers.
The first military alliance is NATO (
North Atlantic Treaty Organization
). It was formed by the
Western bloc
, led by the USA.
In the Eastern Bloc, the other military alliance called the
Warsaw Pact
was established by the
Soviet Union
and its followers.
The
Cold War
situation and its features began in
1945
and continued to 1991 within the two superpowers.
Finally, the
disintegration
of the
USSR
and its communist bloc in 1989 marked the end of the Cold War period.
As a result, the competition between the east and west ended by the victory of the
west
(
capitalist bloc
)
