Illumination System

Cards (8)

  • Light Source: tungsten or tungsten-halogen lamp located in the microscope base
  • Condenser: located beneath the mechanical stage
  • Condenser: Used to to evenly distribute and optimally focus light from the illumination source onto the specimen
  • Condenser: Collects and focuses a cone of light that illuminates the tissue slide on the stage.
  • Rheostat: controls the VOLTAGE supplied to the LIGHT BULB by controlling the intensity or brightness of the light bulb.
  • Field diaphragm: located at the LIGHT EXIT of the illumination source
  • Iris diaphragm: made up of THIN METAL LEAVES that can be adjusted to form an opening of various diameters
  • Iris diaphragm: Found under the stage of the microscope, and its primary role is to control the amount of light that reaches the specimen
