Microscopes

• Microscopes makes things appear larger
• Parts of the microscopes:

  Eyepiece lens - the part you look through

  Fine focusing wheel - adjusts the clearness of the image in small amounts

  Coarse focusing wheel - adjusts the clearness of the image in large amounts

  Mirror - directs light through the specimen

  Coverslip - holds the specimen in place and stops the specimen from drying out

  Stage - supports the slide

  Slide - supports the specimen

  Objective lens - lens closest to the specimen
• A stain makes parts of the specimen stand out
• Microscope magnification:

  Magnification of eyepiece lens x magnification of objective lens = total magnification
