Karl Leibkecht and Rosa Luxemburg broke away from the SPD and created a group called the Spartacists
The group split up and some remained in the Spartacists, and the others formed the communist party (KPD)
6th January 1919, The Spartacists tried to overthrow Ebert and the Weimar Government
100,000 communists took to the streets of Berlin and seized control over the key buildings. Ebert fled to Weimar as he couldn't defend himself against them
Ebert went to the freikorps for help, and they killed every communist they saw. The uprising had been crushed within days
Leibknecht was arrested and shot, Luxemburg was shot in the head and dumped in a canal
Surprisingly to the public, germany had been saved by a group of thugs in opposition to the government
