  • in 1919, Ebert signed the TOV which many people saw as a betrayal
  • The Freikorps had risked their lives putting down the Spartacists for the last year so they saw the signing as a form of treason
  • March 1920, the Weimar government urged to reduce the size of the army and outlaw the freikorps
  • The Freikorps, Dr Wolfgang Kapp, and the leader of Berlin, General Luttwitz marched into the city with 5000 supporters and seized power. Ebert fled the city again
  • Ebert was rejected by the army for support as they refused to attack fellow Germans
  • Many Berliners helped Ebert as they had no sympathy for left-wingers like Kapp
  • Kapp fled the city as he didn't have enough support to govern, and the Kapp Putsch had failed
  • The Weimar had survived but looked very weak as their army couldn't even put down 400 soldiers part of the putsch
