Neutralisation practical

    Cards (7)

      1. place some dilute acid (eg hydrochloric acid) in a beaker
    • 2. Gently heat it with a bunsen burner
    • 3. Keep adding insoluble base (eg copper oxide) a little bit at a time until base is in excess (doesn't disappear anymore) and would have neutralised all the acid.
    • 4. Filter out excess copper oxide using filter paper and filter funnel
    • 5. heat up the filtered solution using a water bath (to reduce the risk of damaging the salt)
    • 6. once evaporated a bit of the water off and start seeing some crystals forming, stop heating and leave it to cool- will cause more crystals to form
    • 7.Filter crystals using filter paper and dry crystals
