Drinking Water

• Potable water is water that is safe to drink.
• Water Purification Processes:

  • Sedimentation Tank - when small insoluble substances collect at the bottom of the tank
  • Filtration Tower - sediment is filtered out of the water
  • Chlorination - chlorine gas is bubble through the water to kill any harmful bacteria or microbes
• Sea water can be made potable by using distillation.
• Water that is used in chemical analysis has to be pure as impurities could interfere with the results e.g. tap water contains dissolved salts
