Potable water is water that is
safe
to drink.
Water Purification Processes:
Sedimentation
Tank - when small insoluble substances collect at the bottom of the tank
Filtration
Tower - sediment is filtered out of the water
Chlorination
- chlorine gas is bubble through the water to kill any harmful bacteria or microbes
Sea water can be made potable by using
distillation.
Water that is used in
chemical analysis
has to be
pure
as impurities could
interfere
with the
results
e.g. tap water contains dissolved salts
