The rape of the Sabine Women

• Romulus organised a festival with games and invited many neighbouring cities to attend.
• During the festival Rome abducted the young Sabine women. Romulus told them that they would be married and enjoy the wealth of their husbands.
• The Sabine's were outraged and prepared for war
• When the romans and Sabine's fought the women who were abducted ran into the middle of them and made a speech on how it was their fault, both of the armies were moved by this and so their generals made a peace treaty.
• After they made the treaty Romulus and Titus Tatius agreed to share power.
• Many Sabine's became roman citizens
