  • Catholic Social Teachings (CST)

    The Church's body of teachings on social realities based on Sacred Scriptures, Church Tradition, natural law and human experience. CST presents the Catholic Christian response to key modern social problems.
  • CST does not give technical solutions to social problems. Rather, it gives us moral principles that can help us reflect on our social problems, guidelines for moral actions, and criteria for judging our moral decisions and evaluating social systems.

    • The Church does not run the government and ask no special privileges from it.
    • The State fulfills its mission according to its own ways and means. So does the Church.
  • The Church has something to say about political matters.
  • Social Documents
    • Today, when Church authorities talk about CST, they refer primarily to the documents address to the universal Church.
    • While popes released encyclicals on various topics and practically all letters signed by them have social implications.
    • These offer a venue for the Church to address the contemporary social, economic and political issues of specific nation or region and speak on behalf of the victims of social injustice.
