  • Life Cycle of Cemecidae and Reduvidae
    1. Egg laying habits of Cimex and Rhodnius
    2. egg laying in batches→Cimex
    3. egg laying in singly→Rhodnius
    4. Larvae (nymphs I) hatch from eggs
    5. 3–7 molts of nymphal instars needed to reach sexually mature stage
    6. Reduviidae develop fore- and hindwings
    7. Cimicidae remain wingless
  • The eggs are laid in batches by Cimex and mostly singly by Rhodnius in the crevices of bed frames, walls, or similar household sites.
  • The larvae (nymphs I) which hatch from the eggs are wingless and feed (as do all other stages) by sucking the blood of humans, and also many other mammals.
  • 3–7 molts of the nymphal instars are needed to reach the sexually mature female or male stage.
  • In Reduviidae typical fore- and hindwings are eventually formed, but Cimicidae remain wingless in all stages.
