• Steps in simple distillation

  1. Heat the solution

  2. Liquid evaporates into vapor

  3. Vapor passes through condenser

  4. Vapor condenses back into liquid

  5. Liquid collected in beaker
• Simple distillation can be used to produce drinking water from sea water
• Simple distillation requires a great deal of energy, so it is generally not used to produce drinking water
• Other techniques are used instead to produce drinking water
