  • Viruses are not cells or living. They cannot reproduce by themselves and are 10000x smaller than animal cells.
  • Once a virus gets inside a cell, it can use the cell to make loads of copies of itself and burst the cell, the viruses will then find new cells. This damages our bodies and makes us feel ill.
  • Measles
    • Spread by droplets from coughing and sneezing
    • Red rash across body
    • Fever
    • Can be fatal
    • Most people in the UK are vaccinated
  • HIV
    • Spread by sexual contact
    • Exchanging bodily fluids (needles)
    • Inadquete immune system
    • Fever, tiredness, aches at first
    • Immune system so weak they get unusual infections and cancer
    • Then they have aids
    • Antiretroviral drugs prevent the virus replicating though
    • If they get these drugs early they can live normal lives
  • Tobacco Mosaic Virus
    • Affects plants like Tobacco and Tomato
    • Mosaic pattern on leaves
    • Photosynthesis cant take place on discolored patches
    • The plant cannot grow properly
  • Viruses are not living organisms
  • HIV stands for Human Immunodeficiency Virus.
