• • Eva smith was a vehicle to challenge stereotypes about the WC. WC thought to be immoral. Also when mrs b was in disbelief that alderman megarty was being weird w/ eva bc he's UC. Eva challenges those stereotypes, she has a moral compass - stands up for her strikers, rejects erics stolen money when he offers it to her. contrasts w/ mrs b views + when gerald breaks up w/ her he said she was very 'gallant' about it = heroic, brave.

Priestly's use of the exact same language is purposeful bc he wasnts to show there is no real diff between these 2 girls - only diff was how much money they were born into. the outcome of these girls lives were so dramatically diff just bc of their social class. - eva's character highlights this
