    • His book- Black Power (1967)- Carmichael set out what he saw as the characteristics of the Black Power Movement- he wrote that non-violence was foolish when faced with 'someone (white) bent on destroying you'
    • He urged black Americans to 'close ranks' & reject interracial protest
    • He emphasised solidarity with anti colonial movements in the less developed nations
    • He envisaged eventual integration- but only when black Americans could be accepted as real equals
  • Black Panther rather than Carmichael who were mot famous advocates of Black Power
