Had over 40 clinics advising health, welfare & legal rights
Achievements in this area were often impressive:
Ran breakfast programmes for thousands of poor black school children
Raised awareness of sickle cell anaemia- disease disproportionately affected black people
1969- Black Panthers set up their first Liberation School- summer school for black children in Berkeley- curriculum was designed to generate knowledge of & pride in black culture & history- other schools followed in cities- Philadelphia & New York
