  • This Civil War happened as a result of the outcomes of the treaty in 1921. The Dáil split up into pro-treaty and anti treaty. The anti treaty side were unhappy that the Republic wasn’t achieved. The pro treaty side believed that the Irish free state term could be built on overtime and they believe that it was a stepping stone to independence.
  • A split in the IRA Occurred the pro treaty were the regulars and the anti treaty were the irregulars. In 1922 to the general election occurred and more votes were in favour of the treaty. The irregulars led attacks and occupied buildings like the Four Courts. To settle this Michael Collins, the pro-treaty side and the regulars open fired. This fight involved Brother versus Brother this Civil War cause the split in families.
  • When Collins was on his way to Cork he was killed by the irregulars/anti treaty side (De Valera’s side) when Collins died Both groups realised that peace was needed the anot-treaty people realised that they were all once working as a team but now they weren’t and that’s what led to Collins‘s death. His death brought a momentum for peace
    • A new constitution, Bunreacht na hÉireann, was written, establishing the Irish Free State's government structures.
    • The Civil War led to the formation of political parties Cumann na nGaedheal - Collins (later Fine Gael) and Fianna Fáil. - De Valera
