Mutations

• A mutation is a change in the arrangement of bases in a gene

  could also be a change in structure of the chromosome
• Non-disjunction

  when chromosomes don’t split equally during anaphase

  this changes the number or structure of whole chromosomes, happens during meiosis 
• Types of mutataions-

  Addition/deletion - all triplets after will change (frame shift) more dangerous 

  Substitution- only 1 triplet will change, more likley to have a neutral change as it may still code for same amino acid.
