  • Size constancy
    The brain perceives familiar objects as a constant size despite the size of the image they produce on our retina changing with distance
  • Misinterpreted depth cue
    Objects in the distance that appear smaller aee alsclaed up by our brain si they look normal size
    Sometimes the brain sees distance when there isnt any
  • Depth cues- Ponzo illusion
    Converging lines give the illusion of distance
    The brain uses size constancy and mentally scales up the more distant line while mentally scaling down the closer line
  • Depth cues- Müller-Lyer illusion
    Outgoing fins are shaped like the inside corner of a room which is stretching away from us
    Ingoing fins are shaped like the outside of a buildin, projecting out
    These give the illusion of near/far
    We mentally scale up the line that appears closer, so it appears longer
  • Ambiguous figure
    A type of visual illusion where there are two possible interpretations of the same image, the brain cannot which to choose
  • Ambiguous- Necker cube
    The sake omage of a cube can either be perceived as pointing up towards the right, or down towards the left
  • Fiction
    Visual illusion that causes the brain to see something that is not there
  • Fiction- Kanizsa triangle
    Illusory contours to create the impression that a second triangle is overlapping the first one
