• AIII was a strong believer in autocracy and reacted badly to the assassination of his father. He saw reform as dangerous and a threat to autocracy
• AIII had no desire to change the ideology of government. This was reinforced by the issue of the "Unshakeable Autocracy" manifesto in 1881
