  • Stalinism was adapted from Marxism-Leninism and was a totalitarian view of authority. His methods were pragmatic as well as ideological
  • Stalin's second revolution supposedly created a social state; state control of the economy, insistence on social realism and control of education and the arts
  • Stalin wanted to change ideology of the party to unite the USSR and spread communism. He used terror as a mechanism to implement reform and promote ideological purity
  • During GPW, structure changed with formation of the Stavka and GoKo which allowed for rapid decision making.
  • Post GPW ideology was anti-west. The idea of an alternative political and economic model to capitalist democracy became more important.
