Unfortunately for the earls, their revolt did not get widespreadAnglo-Saxon support and the Danish fleet arrived too late. The revolt was defeated before it really began:
-Waltheof changed his mind and informed Lanfranc.
-Lanfranc’s failed appeal to Roger led him to ex-communicate him.
-Preparations were made to block Roger in Hertfordshire and Ralph in East Anglia.
-William returned at the same time as the Danes arrived. They did not want to fight William directly so they fled north and raided the Eastcoast before going home.
