  • there are 3 types of random sampling
  • there are 3 types of sampling
    1. simple random
    2. systematic sampling
    3. stratified
  • to take a simple random sample you need a sampling frame, you then allocate each person a random number and use a random number generator to give a non biased result
  • to take a systematic sample you divide the sample size by the population and take every nth person
  • to take a stratified sample the population is divided into strata which you then take a random sample from each strata
  • there are 2 types of non-random sampling
    1. quote
    2. opportunity
  • for quota sampling the population is divided into groups according to characteristic, you then interview people and allocate a quota
  • to do opportunity sampling you take samples from people who are available at the time your study is being carried out who fit the criteria
  • there are 4 types of data
    1. quantitive
    2. qualaltitive
    3. continuous
    4. discrete
