  • Complete Sentences - consists of subject and a predicate.
  • Sentence Fragments - are common errors among technical writers.
  • Independent Clause - Clauses that can stand alone. They contain at least one subject and one predicate.
  • Dependent Clause - Clauses that cannot stand alone. They need an independent clause to function.
  • Simple Sentence - 1 independent clause.
  • Compound Sentence - 2 independent clauses.
  • Complex Sentence - 1 independent clause + 1 or more dependent clauses.
  • Compound-Complex Sentence - 2 independent clauses + 1 or more dependent clauses.
  • Run-on Sentences - happen when two clauses which can stand alone are combined in one complete sentence without the necessary dividers.
  • Comma Splice - is a run-on sentence in which a comma is used unnecessarily to divide the clauses.
  • Antecedent - the subject being replaced with pronouns.
  • Modifier - pronouns in replacement of subject.
  • Pronoun Confusion - happen when modifiers do not appropriately compliment the antecedent they represent due to certain reasons.
  • Parallelism - sentences, phrases, or words, especially items which are listed, are enumerated in a similar manner.
