Decalogue
The Ten Commandments given by God to the Israelites
The Decalogue was to liberate the Israelites, as their preface declares: "I, the Lord, am your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery."
The law flowed directly from the Covenant relationship of Yahweh's loving call creating His Chosen people.
Obedience to God's comprehensive Law was the hallmark for believing Israelite. All sin was viewed primarily as an offense against the Lord.
The Golden Calf incident
1. People saw Moses was long in coming down
2. They asked Aaron to make them gods
3. Aaron made a golden calf idol
4. God told Moses the people had become corrupt
5. Moses commanded the Levites to kill 3000 people
6. Moses went to make atonement for the sin
Tabernacle
The central place of worship for the Israelites, placed at the center of their camp
Manna and Quails
1. Israelites instructed to only gather enough manna for each day
2. They could store extra on Saturdays for Sundays
3. Israelites complained, so God sent quails

God's presence that guided and protected the Israelites during the day and night
Journey from Sinai to Paran
1. It was supposed to be a great journey, but things went sour quickly
2. People, Aaron and Miriam complained
3. God punished the complainers with fire and plague
4. Miriam contracted leprosy
Spies sent to Canaan
1. 12 spies sent to scout the land
2. Joshua and Caleb said the land was good
3. The other 10 spies said the forces were too strong
4. The Israelites sided with the 10 spies and wanted to go back to Egypt
God banned the current generation of Israelites from entering the Promised Land, but said their children would inherit it.
Korah's rebellion
1. Levites rebelled against Moses and Aaron's leadership
2. There was a divine showdown and the rebels were swallowed by the earth
Journey from Paran to Moab
1. Israelites complained, a plague broke out
2. Moses disobeyed God and was prohibited from entering the Promised Land
3. Aaron died and his son took his place
4. Miriam died
5. Israel defeated several enemies
In Moab, just across the Jordan from Canaan, Eleazar became the new High Priest, and Joshua became the successor of Moses.
The prophet Balaam tried to curse Israel seven times but God only allowed him to pronounce blessings.
God showed Moses the Promised Land but did not let him enter it, because he had disobeyed God earlier.
