  • Parallel structure: Uses the same way of describing several things in a list. ways of describing things in a list includes the descriptors being all adjectives, nouns, verbs, gerund phrases, infinitive phrases, or clauses
  • Three types of parallel structure:
    1. parts of speech
    2. Correlative conjunctions
    3. Tense consistency
  • What can parallelism also be used for: enumerations like lists, job descriptions on resumes, and outlines
  • parts of speech: verbs should be paralleled by verbs, adjectives by adjectives, nouns by nouns and so forth
  • Correlative conjunctions: Correlative conjunctions include both ... and, either ... or, neither ... nor, not only ... but also, whether ... or. these should be followed by parallel elements
