Electrical Engineers - they design, develop, and test electrical devices and equipment including communications systems, electrical instruments, power generators, motors and navigation systems, and electrical systems for automobiles and aircraft
Inside wiremen - work in either residential or industrial and commercial environments by connecting the electrical systems and equipment to the outside power source. They are trained to install and maintain wiring, fire alarms. Security systems, and grounding systems.
Outside linemen - install the electrical lines that carry electricity from the source to the customers. They install and maintain transformers, transmission, and existing lines.
Installer technicians - work with inside wiremen in installing low voltage cabling system for voice, video, data transmissions and data outlets, and computer networks.
Renewable energy technicians - install and maintain alternative energy systems such as solar panels, wind and water generators, and digital fundamentals.
Preparing Electrical Materials and Tools
Electrical materials and tools are essential in successfully accomplishing electrical installation or maintenance tasks
Safety Switch – This is the switch that is responsible for cutting the flow of electric current from the power source wherever an electrical circuit suffers from overheating, overloading, or grounding.
Circuit breaker – This equipment has function which is the same as the safety switch, it is the breaker that cuts off electric current and resets it in order to function again.
Fuse – This is an electrical device that cuts off the flow of electrical current in an electrical circuit.
Electrical wires – These are conductors that serve as the carrier or transmitter of electric current from one electric device to another in an electric circuit.
Switches and plates – These are the electrical devices that control the flow of electric current in an electric circuit.
Convenience outlets – These are electrical devices that serve as the power source of various portable electrical appliances that have to be plugged in.
Extension cord – This serves as a power source for an electrical appliance that is used from convenience outlet which is far.
Receptacle – This serves as an outlet where incandescent bulbs, compact fluorescent lamps, and female plugs are screwed in.
Lamp – This is a power consuming device that produces light.
Male plug – It is a device connected at the service cord of an electronic appliance for connection to the power source.
Female plug – This serves as a connection for the power when screwed in a receptacle.
Junction box and cover - It serves as a connection for power and extension in multiple wiring, and also as holder for receptacles.
Utility box and cover – It serves as connection wiring and holder to switches, telephones, bells, and cable televisions.
Straight condulet – This has an opening at the front of the fitting that is used for pulling wires and provided with a cover.
LR condulet – This fitting is used for pulling wires that will make a right turn.
LL condulet – This fitting is used for pulling wires that will make a left turn.
LB condulet – This fitting has an opening and a cover. The removal cover is on top or on the back of the conduit body.
Rigid metal conduit - This is a metal pipe raceway which protects the electrical wires safely inside.
BX or armored cable – This is a two-piece or three piece rubber-insulated covered wire wrapped with wax paper and spiraled metal tube sheet formed like a flexible metal tube used in electrical wiring installation.
Wood molding – This material is a wooden raceway used in surface electrical wiring installation.
Metal surface raceway – This is a surface raceway made of metal where electric wires are lined inside for protection against wire injury used for electrical wiring installation.
PVC surface raceway – This polyvinyl chloride raceway is like the metal surface raceway, only it is nonmetallic.
PVC pipe conduit – This nonmetallic raceway is made of high-density polyethylene and widely used in electrical wiring installation in residential houses, commercial, and industrial buildings.
Moldflex tubings – These are corrugated flexible electrical tubes that are widely used for houses and high-rise buildings.
Split knobs – These are made of porcelain material and used in open-wiring electrical installation
Porcelain tube – These are insulators that protect the electric wires from injury to prevent short circuit whenever wires cross each other or pass a metal, studs floor joists, and other parts of a building
Mica tube – The micanite or mica tube is an insulation material used in order to protect electrical wires from injury whenever conductors pass each other and the other parts of a building.
Electrical tape – This is an insulating flexible tape used to wrap or cover an exposed electric wire or conductor
Royal cord – This kind of cord is usually used as service cord for portable tools as well as light and heavy machineries
Flat or duplex wire – This is an electrical wire manufactured as a twin wire or made in parallel. It is widely used as service cord of different electrical appliances.
Combination pliers – used for holding and cutting wires.
Long-nose pliers – used for twisting wires
Side-cutting or diagonal pliers – used for cutting wires
Straight-tip screwdriver – used for driving and loosening straight slotted screw.
Cross-tip (Phillips) screwdriver – used for driving and loosening cross-slotted screw.
