  • Heading is the element of your résumé that indicates your full name, address, phone numbers (both personal and business, and e-mail address.
  • The heading is the element that presents your contact details.
  • The heading is located at the top most portion (usually in the middle) of the résumé.
  • You may want to write your full name in bold letters so that your prospect employer will easily remember your name in the heading portion.
  • Objective refers to your career goal.
  • The objective should specifically match the job or position you are applying for.
  • Career objective in a resume is usually expressed in a one-liner statement that sums up the job you are seeking.
  • The objective is the element that is very important because it prompts your prospective employer as to whether or not you share with them the same career objective.
  • Education is the feature of the resume that presents your educational attainment.
  • You need to indicate the degree/s you obtained, from which school, and the month and year you obtained such degree/s.
  • If you are a college student seeking for a part-time job for example, then you need to indicate the degree you are pursuing.
  • Experience basically refers to your employment history.
  • In the experience section, you need to indicate the position you previously held, the name of the company you worked for, and your date of employment.
  • The job title must have description so your employer will be able to know exactly the specific function you carried out for your previous employer.
  • Write the job description using action verbs.
  • Skills refers to your special abilities or talents that may be relevant to the job you are pursuing.
  • Fluency in foreign languages, and typing ability can be included in the skill section.
  • Application Letter expresses intention to apply for a job
  • The application letter must contain specific qualifications in relation to the position you are seeking to fill
  • General content structure of an application letter:
    • Introduction
    • Body
    • Closing
  • Introduction must include:
    • purpose for writing the letter
    • specific job you are applying for
    • mention where you learned about the job
  • The Body section in AL must include:
    • relevant qualifications
    • professional and/or academic qualifications
    • skills, talents, or qualities
    • special trainings or seminars
  • The closing part of AL must include:
    • request your prospective employer for a chance to be interviewed by them at their convenience.
    • contact number or e-mail address.
    • thank them for their time and consideration
  • Essential parts of an Application Letter:

  • Heading is also called Return Address and Letterhead, this bears the necessary information about your identity as the letter sender. This includes your full name, complete address, contact numbers, and e-mail address.
  • The Date section includes the date when you wrote the letter. It comes immediately after the heading.

  • The Inside Address is the component of the letter that has the necessary information about the identity of the person you are writing to. This includes the recipient's full name and designation, the company or institution which the recipient is affiliated with, the address of the company or institution, and postal code.
  • The Salutation portion is also referred to, as greeting. Generically, salutation starts with "Dear" and followed by the last name of the recipient.
  • The body is the meat of the letter that is presented through paragraphs. In an application letter, it is the part where you explain your purpose in writing the letter and reasons why you are qualified for the job you are applying for.
  • Complimentary Close is a component of the letter signals the closing of your letter. It is a short polite closing which ends with a comma (,).
  • The Signature appears immediately below the complimentary close. Make sure to affix your signature over your full name.
